A safe haven that sparks memories and stories

First time buyer Anais has lived in her home for just over 1 year. After moving out of rental accommodation she now has the opportunity to put her own stamp on her home. Mixing Mid Century with Modern, Anais injects vintage pieces throughout her home - sourced from second hand shops, eBay or even Facebook marketplace - with wooden furniture, plants and natural textiles which makes for an eclectic home full of personality. Although drawn to glossy interior magazines to browse for inspiration, the pieces she finds are often out of her budget so she takes to Instagram and Pinterest - sites edited by real people designing their homes individually - which she can readily apply to her own home. Calling her home a ‘petri dish’, Anais is constantly experimenting, testing and refining until she reaches the results she’s after. Avoiding the ‘design crime’ of not having a consistent style throughout her abode, Anais is slowly but surely adding pieces by the day to bring back the original features of her 1950s property, as a way to pay homage to the decade her home was built. As the only original feature still standing, Anais is keen to preserve her Art-Deco post-war feature fireplace - though modified by the previous home owners, with a lick of white paint - she feels dedicated to ensuring this beautiful focal point in her home gets the attention it deserves, with the trinkets she wants displayed front and centre. Anais encourages us to be conscious about how you decorate your home - to your own taste, not to the benefit of others - to create a haven where you can feel comfortable and safe, to luxuriate in your home commodities and belongings around you that can spark memories and stories collected over the years.
