A renovation 'going with the flow'

Going with the flow and having fun is Essi’s - a Finnish 29 year old - interior motto. A true believer of ensuring decorating her home is a fun hobby she’s very aware that often people make mistakes and learn from experiences. For a nice home you don't need a big budget, imagination and creativity goes a long way. Though trends can be fun to keep a close eye on, whilst picking up ideas along the way, she tries not to style her homes based on what’s currently trendy. Her strategy is to play with colours, and once you find your own colour palette that’s when everything starts to make sense.
Essi and her partner bought their home in Autumn 2015, and for 3 solid months they tirelessly renovated - being built in the early 90’s meant there was lots to do to get it back up to working order. Instantly drawn to the area and the mammoth high ceilings, the house fell short in other ways and they actually forgot about the place for a few months. Most definitely not love at first site, but a grower of their affection, the house called out to them once more - after remaining on the market, fit for a fairly tight budget - they viewed the property again and fresh eyes allowed them to make an offer.
Styling a mix of 50’s vintage with scandi and boho vibes, their home ticks lots of interior boxes that do not tie them down when decorating. Essi’s ‘wild child’ approach to curating her home is fairly simple really - if she sees something in a flea market, she buys it. On the contrary to her interior approach, Essi claims to be a bit perfectionist and in a lot of ways her home opts for its own carefree personality. It has a true mind of its own.
